Lorne Howes, from Kirkland Lake, Ontario, played for the Barry Jr, hockey team before entering the University of Michigan.  He had been drafted by the Boston Bruins, but decided to enter Michigan instead.  One of the best goaltenders ever to play for Michigan, he played on two NCAA Championship teams, in 1955 and 1956.  He was the star goalie both years.

Lorne Howes was also a two-time All-American and the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1956.  He graduated from the School of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
