Steve Jones, originally from Duluth, Minnesota, played high school hockey at Duluth Central High School.  He played goal from 1926-1929 for Coach Joseph Barss and Coach Ed Lowrey.  He was elected captain in his sophomore year.  He was selected as Michigan’s first All-American in the sport of hockey.  In the 1926-1927 season, he allowed only twelve goals in thirteen games and had six shutouts.  In the 1927-1928 season, he allowed thirty-one goals in thirteen games and had one shutout.  In his last season, he allowed seventy-four goals in seventeen games and had a career goals against average of 2.72.

His most memorable game was a game played against Minnesota in Windsor, when Michigan beat Minnesota 1-0 to tie for the Big Ten title.  Steve Jones graduated from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts in 1927 and from law school in 1930.
